Does not work with totally dead battery. When you read the manual it lets you know that you have to have some kind of charge on battery before you use this. They need to put that on the box

Versatile automatic charger that can be used on lead acid and lithium 6/12 volt batteries. I use this charger on my wife’s car, since she only uses it 1 or 2 times a week. It keeps the battery healthy by automatically charging the battery when the battery charge level starts to drop. I use a smaller Battery Tender unit on my motorcycle’s battery, since I only ride it on weekends. It is not good for a lead acid battery to sit for extended periods of time, since it becomes weaker via the process of sulfation.

Had it on my battery all winter after purchasing it in the fall of 2020, the green lights were on indicating that it was maintaining the battery and everything was fine. Just tried to start it and the battery was dead…. apparently I bought a box with cables attached and has green led’s that light up but does nothing else. Don’t waste your money on this.

I used to get 3 to 4 years from these and then just go buy another one. This one lasted less than 90 days. Deltran will repair but it takes 6 to 10 weeks. My batteries would be dead and destroyed in that amount of time. Thankfully came through since I was under their 90 day exchange. 5 stars for and 2 for Deltran based on previous experience with their products. Note that in failure. this unit often switched to 6 volts on its own and then all lights on the unit stayed on and flickered on and off. Removing and letting the unit cool allowed it to work normal for about 45 minutes. Different outlets were tried but obviously not the problem since new unit is working fine.

Car battery died several days ago because we left a light on. Bought one of these, plugged it into the wall, connected the clips to the battery and had a fully charged battery in less than 3 hours. I just I was expecting it to take overnight since some reviews of other chargers mentioned having them connected for that long, but I don’t have a lot of knowledge of car batteries.

I’ve owned a few of these from various manufacturers, including the 3 Amp version of this battery tender. I liked the 3 Amp best, so I went looking for another and found this 4 Amp version. Works perfectly and price was good. Highly recommended.

Recently purchased and installed. So far working as advertised; brought battery to full charge and then switched to maintenance. Green lights indicate functional level and easy to read from far side of garage. Be sure to READ INSTRUCTIONS FIRST BEFORE CONNECTING TO BATTERY.

I don’t drive my car very often, so the battery died because it wasn’t being recharged during driving. After I got a new battery, I decided to get a battery charger / maintainer to keep that from happening again. My mechanic recommended the Battery Tender brand. According to the manufacturer’s website, the 4-amp Battery Tender (this product) is recommended for a car or truck, while the Battery Tnder Junior (not this product) is recommended for a motorcycle. My mechanic connected the short cable with the ring terminals to my battery. Then he snaked the short cable out the front of my car so I can leave it connected even with the hood down.
If you know how to use jumper cables, you could probably attach the Battery Tender yourself. I wanted to make sure everything was done right, so I let my mechanic do it.
IMPORTANT: You need to buy the 12′ Battery Tender extension cable because the short cable is not long enough to reach to the typical wall outlet in the garage. I did not see this cable sold at lowes.com but I bought it from that online retailer that sells everything.
