Bought this two weeks ago, unwrapped today and found 2 sockets missing. Called Kobalt, got transferred to Lowe’s Customer Care, then back to Kobalt. Kobalt says they can’t supply individual sockets and Lowe’s says it’s a Kobalt problem. No more in stock at local store so only option is return for refund, and Merry Christmas I guess. Too bad, as it’s a de ent set and I’d be very happy with it if they would just supply the two missing sockets. If you buy this make sure to have the store personnel unpackage and inventory the set, as Kobalt is no help after the sale. :^(

The first set was “lost in transit” by Fedex. I had to waith a couple weeks to call, hard a hard time getting through, and when I said lost in transit means stolen somewhere? Yes they said.
The second set arrived in two days. It was on it’s side in the box. I managed to get the bottom drawer out with some shaking and pulling.
The top drawer won’t pull out. I can see the tilted sockets in there.
The set is great otherwise. Socket case fits sockets just right, not too tight, not too loose. Don’t throw it off a truck though.
Now I need to drill out the rivets that hold the top tray in. Then I can fix the drawer below it. There is no reason to rivet the top tray in unless it was structural. Or use screws.to hold the tray in.

This is a very nice set of tools that is a great mix of metric and standard. Most sets are either one or the other so it nice to have such a versatile set that includes both. The extension drives are a handy addition to.reaching hard places. I am 50 and the only thing I struggled with was the chrome on chrome laser engraving that made it hard for me to see the sizes. I think that should be in an obvious different color for contrast otherwise it’s a great set to grab and go that would handle most tasks. Made in Vietnam.

got this for Christmas and figured it would be a good set for around the home. Used the screwdriver a few times. Needed to use the Philips bit socket with the ratchet on a stuck screw, 1/4 turn later and the bit shears off. Never had something like that happen, not sure if that means all of the bits are brittle and the bits for use on the ratchets are just for show or what.

When craftsman tools started to suck, I looked for a new set of tools to stick with. At the time my eyes were going and I picked kobalt tools, as my new brand to be loyal too, on one factor that made it better than the other brands.
Every socket was laser etched, no muss no fuss… Every single set. No muss,
No fuss
No worries, every set
Except this one.
Taking it back and getting a different set.
Still kobalt, but not this one, and they’ve blown my no muss trust. I now have to check every set.

I ordered this mechanic tool set on line for my son. The store near his home did not have in stock. I ordered it and set him up as the alternative person to pick up the tool set when it arrived at the store. I entered all his info. Then 3 days later (one day before estimated to be at his local store) he was notified by text and email that his merchandise was ready for pick up at curb side.

I opened it and one of the latches dropped off.

Let me start by saying that I’m a big fan of All Kobalt products and The Kobalt 277pc Mechanic’s Tool Set in 2-Drawer Chest does not dissappoint, with that said here ade a few pros and cons.
Pros:
1. As mentioned I’m a big fan of Kobalt, starting with the color, the blue and black looks really well for the tool chest.
2. The tool chest feels sturdy, even though its made of, what I assume, is plastic like materials.
3. Moving to the tools, let me start by saying, this tool chest has every hand tool you will ever need. The ratchets feel very firm; the release button works really well.
4. All sockets feel unbreakable, like they could last a long time, without breaking.
Cons
All of my cons are related to the tool chest itself and not the tools or sockets.
1. The clasps closing the chest feel cheap and like they would fall off at any point; I wouldn’t tugg on them too hard.
2. Both drawers don’t pull all the way out, so the sockets at the back of the drawer are very difficult to pull out.
Overall a great chest which includes everything you will ever need.

Nice, fine ratchets, good quality chrome. Too many bit drivers; should have one pair tongue and groove pliers and one medium crescent wrench for larger nuts.

Lady didn’t even want to bring it to the front porch. She asked my disabled grandma “can’t you come get it?” While waiting for her to bring it on the porch. After she was asked to bring it on the porch, she got in her van and sped off my dead-end road which was completely uncalled for, just because I asked her to do her job.
Overall the item itself was great, just wish the delivery could’ve been a better experience.
Maybe you guys should consider delivering thru fedex, or ups since I’ve never had an experience like that with them.

I had bought this set for my Birthday. My son’s working on his dump truck constantly, led me to loan them to him. I finally just said keep the set. I’m buying my own all over again.

Product is great. The customer service that day was definitely not. Yolanda in Tupelo, MS did not seem like she wanted to help me find someone to locate the tool set. Very rude.

This is a nice, basic mechanic tool set in a compact and secure carrying case. It has a decent mix of tools, but l would have traded some of the Allen keys and insert bits for a few more combination wrenches.
The case is nice, but if you have big hands it might be a challenge to get some of the sockets out of the last row of the drawers. Also, some parts of the case feel a little soft, if it’s in the heat in your truck cab, it may fail
The ratchet handle and driver handle feel good in small and large hands. I like the slim profile of the bit holder, it fits into tight spaces. The sockets snap on solidly and come of nicely on the ratchet handle. The sockets have a nice, bold engraving and are easy to read. (Even easier than the professional brand at work)
The combo wrenches are short, but still feel pretty solid. In order to keep the kit small, they traded size and number of wrenches. That is probably my biggest disappointment with the kit
It’s a nice supplementary kit that you can keep in your truck and take with you easily. It would be a great starter set for someone, or if you don’t have a lot of room in your apartment for tools
As with all the kits, they inflate the “number” of tools by counting every Allen key and driver insert, but there is still a lot of tools and a decent mix of sizes

Purchased this set to have some organized sockets that I can move around with ease. BIG MISTAKE. The 3/8 ratchet broke within a hour of use. If you try to go up steps, the drawers slide out with ease due to them not having anything to lock them in. It leaves a mess of sockets all over the ground. Less than 24 hours of ownership and I have a dented drawer, broken ratchet and $100 less in my bank account. Not impressed with my first Kobalt tool set

Great tool set for the price. However, its loaded with hex tools. Who needs that much hex tools? Not enough wrench sets. Hex screws, hex screws way too much. They could of given one set of the Hex set and do a better job on the wrench set.

This is a decent, inexpensive set. It’s got a large number of tools for the price. It also has some failures. when I read that the sockets were marked in bigger print on the shank of the socket itself, I thought it sounded like a Great idea. unfortunately, instead of being engraved on the surface, it is only lightly etched on the surface of the shank and almost impossible to find and read. I had also assumed that the size would still be engraved on the bottom band and it is not. Invariably. I look there first and can’t find the size. Then I have to study the entire socket to find the size somewhere else. Also the case has some failures. It is a fairly cheap vacu-formed plastic case. The sockets do not lock into their slots. If you carry the set in your truck or something, many of the sockets will come loose from their spots. When the sockets have bounced out of their proper slots, you can no longer open the drawer as the slide action is blocked by the added thickness. At that point in order to open it, you must take out the trays above the one you need from the topmost down. then you have to scoop out all the loose sockets. remove the entire drawer and re-catalog the sockets that had gotten loose. It’s not a deal-breaker but it is quite annoying. The other container issue is that the wrenches in the topmost panel are only loosely set in the holders. They fall out also. You cannot expect a whole lot more for this price though.

The tools are of decent quality. The case, however, absolutely sucks. This set should be set on a bench and not moved. If you think you’re going to be lugging this around on the daily, you are sadly mistaken… I’d say the case would last less than a week with any sort of heavy usage.
Kobalt, you can do better.

The combination wrenches in this set are the length of my hand. They look like a child’s play set. The socket bottoms have what looks like little slices in them as well. That won’t affect the performance, but still, these are new tools and should be perfectly flat and round. I’d show photos, but I have it packed up ready to return them this weekend. I purchased a few small Kobalt items like the 100 piece bit set and the mini toolbox. Considering they compete against Craftsman at a very slightly lower price point, looks like I’m going back to Craftsman.

Tool set was too incomplete for me. Too many weird hex bits and not enough sockets. Website should give more details of what comes in the set. I returned it.

I don’t like the way the drawers pull out. Love that everything is nicely organized.

I purchased this set on 23 Dec. 23. When I opened the tool set a few days later I noticed a 9/16″ socket was missing. I read the reviews and saw that a few other people were missing sockets. I called the number that was given from the Kobalt Team and followed the directions. I was unsuccessful in reaching a representative with the method of using option 2 and option 2 again. I called and spoke with another representative and was told they could not get me a replacement socket and I would have to return the tool set to . My recommendation if anyone purchases this tool set is to look inside the drawers to ensure all the items are there.

Kobalt 277pc Mechanics Tool Set With Case.
There is a lot of product crammed, although well organized, in this toolbox. The case is an attractive, rugged, blow-molded design that should last the lifetime of the product inside.
Inside, we have chrome finished SAE and metric 3/8”, 1/4”, and 1/2” sockets, including 1/4” deep wells, and a couple extensions. The ratchets are high quality, 90-tooth gear design, for excellent tight space operation. There are also flat head, phillips, torx, and allen head socket drive bits. There’s also a set of L wrenches in SAE and metric Allen head and torx drive. A nice quality interchangeable, magnetic tip screwdriver is included, with a multitude of bits in all the aforementioned configurations, plus square drive and nut drives. Rounding out the package is a set of 5-16” through1/2” SAE and 10mm through 13mm metric open end/box end wrenches. THESE are my only real complaint with the whole kit. The wrenches are only 4” long, so no great amount of torque is going to be able to be applied here. No 1/4” or 5/8”, and no 8mm are included, which would have made it more complete, in my opinion.
So, for a general, full set of basic tools, all I really need to add is a couple sets of different adjustable pliers, cutters, and a hammer. This is a pretty nice setup, and the case is quite compact for everything in here. I have my huge chest with everything under the sun in it in my main garage, and this will be perfect for my shed where all my small equipment is. For the average consumer, this would be a great set for your main go to.
