First off, as a Handyman/Shade tree mechanic, this tool set is perfect.
For my Handyman Business, It’s a Big plus, Having the right tools for the job is a great way to get the jobs done right the first time.
It has all the Common tools needed to do almost any repair job, from Tune ups, replacing Shocks, working on small engines to working on my Big Tractor’s Front Hub.
Has a good variety of tools to help get the job done .
The carry case is perfectly set up. With all tools very organized, Nice big numbers on the sockets to help you identify the sizes easier. ( Just make sure you wipe them clean after jobs, As our Hands leave oily residue that will corrode any Metal tool ).
If you clean these tools after using them, they will last you a very long time.
Great Allen tools set, Deep sockets are a plus too. I replaced 3 tool boxes of another brand with this kit and have been very happy with my decision. All I needed was in One of these sets.
Love the 90 Tooth Wrenches, they make a difference in working with tight spaces, compared to Other brands with Less teeth, The more teeth a wrench has the less space needed to wrench in Nuts.
I have replaced my old tool sets with this one, going to get my Sons a set for each too.
They will like them, as it will help them stay organized with Useful tools.
At this Price, It’s a Great deal overall.
Good quality Tools to help get many jobs done.
compared to competition, Seems this set has a better selection of tools, Others usually add lots of little bits and brag that its a Big Tool Amount.
This has been a Great set for me. Looking forward to many more years of usage out of it.

The order and the process it’s was fine, my complaint is with the item itself that it’s looked like used when it’s supposed to be new but can’t really say much for it price

Overall quality tools. The case does not hold the drawers in place well. They slip out of place and can be hard to open or close. End up pull them all out and setting on ground while working instread of fighting to open and close. Frustrating at times

It’s what i expected, good tools but case is cheap.

Rating is low based on the tool box. I have purchased several of these attempting to get a usable set. With the 1st order the tool box arrived with the sides warped causing the drawers fall down and not able to be pulled out. Returned it. 2nd order arrived the same way but missing one socket. Returned it too. 3rd order arrived with warped sides again. Either the tool box cant handle the weight of the tools/drawers or its a basic design flaw using cheap plastic/polymers. Customer Service put me in touch with Kobalt and they are shipping me a new tool box. Hopefully this one isn’t warped. If it is, will return it all again…. It would be nice if Kobalt offer a mid-level metal tool box. To date there only seems to be a very small shoe box sized one and a larger bench top style.

Likes: Great price for a nice selection of general hand tools. I got this to keep in the bed of my truck for when I need the off and end wrench, socket, or Allen key at work and it has a little piece of everything. Nice organized drawers to keep everything in its place.
Cons: the case itself is flimsier than I expected for how much the tool set weighs. When I received it is had been broken apart in shipping. I snapped everything back together, but even with the hard plastic exterior walls, the weight of all the tools inside makes this case feel like it could come apart at any moment. Shelves don’t stay in their tray slots well due to the give of the plastic so it’s sometimes hard to pull them out or get them back in properly.

My wife ordered this set for me as a Christmas present when it was on sale. Order was delayed then After waiting a week after Christmas and Lowe’s charging us for the item they then cancelled our order without any explanation. They did refund us, but I wanted the product for the price we paid not the full price now that’s showing I can get it shipped to me in 3 days. Guess they didn’t want to honor their sales price so they just cancelled the order. Do better Lowe’s.

I really wanted to like this mechanic’s set. Before I get into the problems with it, let me talk about what this product does well.
This is a very complete set. I’ll include a picture of everything in it, as that’s easier than putting it all here. Also, I love the color coded red/blue rings around each socket. It makes it very easily to quickly identify your standard vs metric sockets. The drawers do hold the sockets very firmly. I removed a drawer, flipped it over, and shook it and none of the sockets came close to falling out.
Now let me talk about the problems.
First, the case. I was initially concerned that the drawers would want to fall out when the case is carried, since they do not have any mechanism to lock them in place. That is not the case. The drawers are designed with a catch on the slide, this prevents them from easily sliding out, even when you want them to slide out.
The drawers do pull all the way out, which is necessary, as the back row of items can’t be accessed without fully removing the drawer. In addition, the back row seems to contain some of my most used sockets (the 1/4” and 3/8” drive sockets from Standard 5/32 to 9/16), so accessing these will be more of a pain than necessary.
The top rack is accessed by opening the two locks and lifting the top. The top rack even lifts out. This is the most easily accessible portion of the entire set, yet the items placed here are easily the least frequently used. And the custom molded plastic for each item prevents any suggestion of reorganization.
The case is made of a molded plastic, and when the drawers and tools are in, the sides bow outward slightly near the middle of the case. This isn’t a structural problem, and wouldn’t bear mentioning, except that the drawers sit in non-captive slide cutouts. When the case bows outward, the drawer leaves the slide. So if the third drawer alone is removed, the second drawer has a tendency to fall out of the side channel and wedge diagonally (see picture).
I have a number of other mechanic ratchet sets, and this one is the least densely packed of them all. They could likely have shrunk the size of the case by 20-30% without losing a single thing. Which would have been welcome, as the case is LARGE.
Finally, the build quality. The sockets don’t seem light or flimsy. The only moving parts on these tools are the ratchets. I’m holding the 1/4” ratchet right now, and I can’t move the switch on the back from one position to the other with my hand. With the help of a tool, I was able to flip the switch, and the ratchet did switch directions. What’s more, slightly bumping the ratchet causes the switch to drop into a “neutral” middle position where it spins freely. The 3/8” and 1/2” work without issue, so I don’t know if the 1/4” I received is defective or if the design and/or build is just flawed.
The combination wrenches do seem quite light compared to my other sets. Also, this is an unusually complete wrench set on the small end (the smallest wrench is a metric 4). However, the set doesn’t include anything larger than a 16. It’s fairly uncommon that I need really small wrenches, and quite common that I need larger ones. Ironically, while testing this product, I did need a 19, and I had to go to another set to find one.
Assuming the 1/4” socket is just a defective unit, this would be a fine set for someone who only occasionally needed to pack up and move around. You’d pull the drawers out and they’d live out. However, if you’re moving around with any frequency, I think this set would be more of a frustration. There are a lot of options at or around this price point, and I don’t think this set provides the value that certain others do.

This tool set is fantastic as a starter tool set or one to have in your vehicle, particularly if you do work for others away from home like I do (daughter’s house, hunting camp, customers, etc.).
Pros:
A wide variety of 1/4″ & 3/8″ drive sockets, ratchets and extensions in both 6 point & 12 point in both SAE & Metric sized up to 7/8″ & 22 mm. In addition, there are combination wrenches, Allen wrenches and an assortment of bits and bit drivers as well as a blow molded tool box to hold all 250 pieces in a compact, rustproof container. The tool kit is not overly heavy and fits nicely in the back of my Jeep without taking up too much room and provides a high percentage of the tools needed for most small jobs without breaking the bank all with a lifetime warranty. My experience with Kobalt tool quality has historically been excellent and never an argument on the rare occasion there is an issue exercising the warranty.
Cons:
With the exception of the provided standard screw driver bits and bit driver, you will probably want at least a multi-screwdriver and assorted pliers in addition to what is in this kit. You can get by with the bits and driver handles but sometimes a plain old screw driver works better. There is not an empty drawer to add additional items as each component has a snap in, preformed spot so it cannot be used as a tool box for these type of additional items. The drawers do not lock or have a lid related stop so they can slide open if this is in you car or otherwise and it is moved/stopped quickly – not a major issue if you are aware.
Overall, a great tool kit I expect to get a lifetime of use out of.

I am impressed with this set of tools. Everything has a place and the box is rather lightweight. The plastic box makes it so that it doesn’t rattle as travels in my vehicle and everything has its place. The drawers are a little tight to pull out but I think that is a plus as, over time, as I believe the plastic will loosen up some. The etching on each of the tools is nice and helps to easily see the size of the tool. The color banding also help to find the metric tools from the SAE ones. There is a good assortment of deep and 6 point sockets to fit most any need that I would have. The open end wrenches are thin to help getting on narrow nuts but still look tough to be able to handle the torque put on them. The set tops out at 1” and 22 mm sockets which is nice. The only minor negative is that the latches on the top lid hang down in the way of the top shelf unless you fold them back up out of the way. I would rather have the larger latches with this issue than smaller, weaker ones. The top drawer is removable to move to your work location. The other drawers can be moved around as well. Each is removable and also has a stop to keep them from easily coming out too far. I would definitely recommend this set. With the lifetime, hassle free guarantee my only concern is losing the 10 mm socket.

To make a long story short: fantastic tools, faulty case.
I got this toolset as a replacement for a similar model that my wife ordered for me as a gift. The case on that Kobalt set broke after one use. I wouldn’t even say one use, the plastic bar that holds the latch assembly broke at the metal pins when I opened it to see what was inside. When I went to the store to get a replacement I was informed that it was a seasonal item and no longer in stock. This is a very well-sorted tool set for most tasks. The tools themselves are of great quality. I received one faulty ratchet, which was easily replaced at my local . However, the plastic case itself is kind of terrible. The drawers tend to fall into one another, meaning that if I am trying to grab a crescent wrench out of the bottom, I have to either remove all of the trays on top or even flip the box on its back to reduce the weight on the tray. This isn’t because the set is being jostled in the back of a truck or car which would be understandable, I keep the set on my workbench at home. I believe it is due to a possible lack of quality control with the plastic. I say that because the drawers don’t sit evenly even if they are empty, and are difficult to pull out or put back in even when the tools are removed. Additionally, most of the tools are securely held within their plastic slots. However, the “spinner” that is housed in the lid just falls out. I have been securing it with a piece of electrical tape, but I may end up trying to replace the set at Lowe’s because it is a little frustrating when if the tape loses its adhesiveness and the tool just starts falling down and blocks me from closing the lid. I can thankfully say that the plastic bar that holds the latch assembly has held up well.

The tools are great and all were included; however, I have the same complaint about the case as others – The sides are pushed outwards and the drawers simply drop when the drawer below is removed.
I do not know if is stacking heavy items on top of the tool box causing the case to bow outwards, but it is obviously a common issue that needs to be resolved.

Nice set of sockets. I bought this set because I wanted a complete set of sockets. Fairly complete but a few sizes not included. Box / open ended wrenches a short. a decent price for what you get. Case is terrible / useless.

I found this kit on sale for 48 bucks so maybe I’m just satisfied by price alone, but I have no complaints about this set. the case is really not that bad. I feel like the bad reviews are from people who don’t treat their stuff nicely. maybe if you had it shipped that’s where the damage is from, but I got mine from the store and the case is just fine, albeit a little on the cheap/flimsy side. but if you are careful you can remove any drawer without taking all of them out. anyways, the set has lots of useful sockets and three 90 tooth ratchets of different drive size. smooth action and easily reversible with one hand. if you find the sale like I did just buy it. it’s a no brainer. for the advertised 160 you might wanna wait until the next model or another sale comes along.

Purchased the 250 piece Pro 90 Tool set with tool chest on 11/07/2022. Very excited with the tools a great set of what I would call the most typically used tools on the market. However I am extremely disappointed in the tool chest. After removing the cardboard cover I noticed all the drawers were compacted down on top of each other. After removal the sides of the toolbox were bowed so badly the tool trays will not fit into the slots making the box almost useless. Because the toolbox is plastic I would recommend investing in a solid metal one with roller bearing drawers. Highly recommend the tools but not the toolbox!

As the title reads it’s pretty self explanatory the tools are great I’ve owned kobalt before but the case isn’t made well that holds the drawers. I wish I would e read some of the reviews before purchasing. Other then that it’s a very complete set minus the fact that the drawers don’t fit and fall out

First off, I am a “Handy man” only! Not a professional. This product includes so many different tools and is very impressive. This 250 piece set should handle every single job I will ever do my entire life! I used the specialty “spark plug” socket to remove my riding lawn mower spark plug with ease. I also removed my lug nuts with no problem what- so ever!
The tools themselves look very durable and are all in working order. The “Hard plastic tool case” appeared very flimsy and low quality, and actually, one side came to me broken. The “rachets” have a 90 tooth feature which seems amazing!
Overall, this product makes me feel like a professional! I more tools now than professionals have! They are quality tools for a great price! Every wife should get this set for their husbands on fathers day! It adds style with its sleek blue “kobalt” look, and the ease of use for this product is a given!
One recommendation for this high end kobalt tool kit would be to add the “racheting” wrenches to the set. That would make the DIY buyer even more prepared!

Like so many other reviews of this product, the case is terrible. The trays hold my tools quite well, but they are a royal pain in the butt to get slid back in once you slide them out.. I do like the trays come out as I can pull an entire drawer of sockets out and have them nearby when I am working but the plastic sides of the toolbox aren’t rigid enough to keep the other drawers from falling down if you pull one out. This also makes them very difficult to get back in as the tray will catch on the lower sockets. The top tray is removable as well but it has the same issues because of the external case, it often falls down into the middle of the case forcing you to remove it before you can insert the top drawer fully.
I really like this toolkit, the kobalt tools have held up great. But again the carrying case is the bane of my existence, I would almost be better off taking all of the drawers out and putting them inside a cardboard box.
Anonymous –
This kit has just about everything i was looking for. The drawers come out completely and fit inside my big shop tool box keeping everything organized. If i need to take these tools on a service call away from the shop i can put the drawers back in the kobalt box it came with and still have just about every socket or wrench i would need and not worry about dropping or losing expensive tool truck tools. Overall this is a good kit for the price
Anonymous –
The tools are actually good tools with a good warranty, but the case is piece of junk that fell apart soon as I removed the cardboard and after paying 230 dollars for the tools and it falls apart soon as I got it home, I probably should return them and buy a set with a better case.
Anonymous –
The tools are great but this is the worst design for the tool holder. The shelves drop down on each other and its extremely difficult to get the shelves out of the outer shell. I bought this as a trunk took kit but its so bad i will buy a different set for this use and move these drawered shelves into a shop tool box.

There’s 250 piece Kobalt Mechanics that is amazingly well thought out and complete to fit your needs for most repairs, and backed by the hassle free lifetime guarantee that Kobalt is famous for. I have lots of their tools and they are always quality products that are well-made, on the few rare occasions I did have to return one it was fast and easy with no hassles from Lowe’s! That’s a guaranteed tool in America as far as I’m concerned. This kit has everything quarter inch drive, 3/8 inch drive, half-inch drive all fully outfitted with breaker bar ,12 point and 6 point sockets in both SAE and metric, A thorough selection of deep well socket including spark plug sockets, A magnetic bit driver with bits, SAE & metric hex keys, 35 piece set of combination wrenches, torque or star keys , bit driver sockets and more all neatly stowed in a portable chest that holds each item secure and by size making everything super easy to find! I love it!

The only reason the set gets two stars is because of the tools themselves. About as complete of a set as I need, and they seem to be of good quality. The case itself is an absolute TRAINWRECK! It wouldn’t matter if you were going to take each tray out and store it separately in a cabinet, but that was not my intention. I needed something that was all-in-one, that I could store on a work bench, or throw in the truck for a project elsewhere. The trays do not want to slide out, the other trays fall down one one tray above them has been removed, and there is no catch to keep trays from being slid back in too far. Nothing like pinching my thumb in between trays every time I try to slide one back in. Epic fail, Kobalt….
Anonymous –
Excellent assortment, horrible case setup. The tools included are great, but the case and trays are crap. They do not slide properly and fall from their positions, entirely defeating the purpose of the tray system.
Anonymous –
After 30 years working with a hodgepodge of tools, I decided to buy a matching set to better organize myself. I looked at several other brands and kept coming back to this one; mainly because it had 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive sockets. And out of the 250 pieces, most are functionally usable tools and not a bunch of drive bits. There’s a nice mix of open-ended wrenches.
The case is not the greatest, and I agree with many other users on this. However, the trays the tools come in are great. I ditched the box and put the trays in my rolling tool chest. Case quality aside, this is a very functional tool set for a DIY mechanic. I am able to service my commercial lawn equipment with this set.

I’ve been going through the tools, using as many as I can, and so far haven’t encountered any problems. My usage is around the house projects, so I can’t speak to any heavy mechanic or construction durability, but for my needs I have no complaints. I think there is such a huge variety here I won’t ever need any additional sizes beyond what’s provided. They seem to be well made and sturdy, I believe they will last a long time based on what I’ve observed so far.
The chest the tools came in, however, I definitely cannot recommend based on the one I received. When I opened the box and pulled out the first tray, the whole front panel broke apart from the sides. (See photos) I’ve tried shoving it all back together but no luck, and at this point even if I do get it back together I won’t trust it enough to carry it by the handle. This break made it not only impossible to easily move as intended, but also very cumbersome to use even sitting and trying to pull out the lower drawers.
One caveat I must add is this was mailed to me, so there’s a possibility it was mishandled during shipping. You may have a better experience purchasing in store.
