This set was recommended by a friend for whom it is a daily carry for emergencies. It works great on his motorcycle and elsewhere. He replaced the driver with a $20 compact driver that fits in the case.
Pros: Compact size
6-sided sockets go to 14 mm, others stop at 12 or 13 mm
Nice variety of bits including security Torx
Everything fits snugly in the case and won’t fall out
Sockets held in with a ¼” peg, so I could replace with sizes I need
The plastic organization insert will come out of the case if I want to customize
Cons: Several SAE sizes redundant with metric sockets
No metric hex/Allen bits
Standard Torx redundant with Security Torx
Clear case lid seems brittle
But here is the deal breaker:
The bits and socket adapter won’t mechanically or magnetically lock into the bit driver. They fall out. I don’t need to be dropping bits or sockets in the dark or into my engine, especially if it is an emergency repair.
I thought this driver would be adequate, but it is not. I have to decide if I am going to but another 4” driver and customize this kit to my needs, or return the set and find a different solution.

I like the ratchet and the organizer but my ratchet broke and my local wouldn’t exchange it.
Also the 5/16″ hex to 1/4″ square adapter doesn’t fit in the wrench very tight so it slips out a lot. ideally this tool would be 1/4″ hex + 1/4″ square drive instead of 1/4″ hex + 5/16″ hex drive

Great for removing or driving screws in limited access areas. I had two wall studs close together and needed to add blocking for a grab bar support on the other side of one of the studs. The ratchet provided enough leverage to drive the screws. I would not use the ratchet with the sockets to break the torque on bolts, it is not robust enough for that. Bought the kit just to get the ratchet. One of those “when you need it, you need it” tools.

I can’t vouch for how good this is because I have yet to use it, but it seems acceptable. The one thing that has me puzzled is what do you do with the 5/16” ratchet head? I don’t anyone that makes 5/16” drive tools. The description says it has 5 – 5/16” drive bits, but I counted them 5 times and I don’t see any. It just seems to me to be waste to have that on there. It would have been much better to just have a smooth end on the ratchet instead of that useless 5/16” ratchet wrench.

I’ve had 2 of the old version have this tool and was somewhat pleased with it except the ratchet doesn’t hold up very well when you.put hard pressure on it. After the second ratchet failed I brought it back to exchange it and I’ve upgraded to a not-so-great set of tools.
1) The original ratchet had a magnetic head to hold the bits. After using the new Ratchet for the first time it has a little clip that fell out and I can’t find it now. So the bits just fall out of the ratchet… very aggravating.
2) the original set also had a clip all the case that you could hang the Box on or clip it on your belt or pocket… I used this often.
Then they box doesn’t have hey clip… I’m taking it back for a refund.

Helped me complete an awkward automotive repair. My only gripe is that I would have liked the handle to be a little longer or be able to purchase a longer handle with the correct size head for the T20 bit that I was using. I have other Kobalt products and trust the brand.

Good product and packaging but definitely a lot smaller than you’d expect. Does the job though.

Purchased this set thinking what the heck it looks cool, not sure how it was going to work. Needless to say it is a great addition to the toolbox. The out of ordinary bits have come in handy for automotive uses. It works great for any space where a right angle tool is needed.

The sockets and bits are wedged into the slots so tightly, you almost need pliers to get them out. The retention spring that holds the bits into the drive handle is a joke. It looks about the same type metal as a staple. I literally never even got one bit installed before the spring fell out. I put it back in several times, but it kept falling out. I just turned around and went back inside and got a refund.

I had been looking everywhere for a decent, compact, right angle ratchet driver for getting into tight places. Most such items are pretty low-end products with very coarse teeth which render the ratchet next to useless in very tight locations. This ratchet is excellent. It’s very compact and solid with very fine teeth. It will also work with any standard 1/4 inch hex bit or the less common 5/16 inch hex bit. Also included is an adapter for using any standard 1/4 inch socket. Plus, it comes with Kobalt’s lifetime warranty.
The supplied bits are another story. While they are good quality common size flathead, Phillips, torx, square, hex bits, and 6 point sockets, I would have expected a smaller size range for such a small ratchet. The sockets range from 5/16 to 9/16 and 8 mm to 14 mm (5 each – SAE and metric). I would have anticipated smaller sockets and a closer distribution of sizes. Similarly, the set includes number 2 and 3 square drives, but not a number 1. The Torx sizes range from T20 to T50 in 6 steps, and the flat bits range from 5/32 to 3/8 inch in 5 steps. Honestly, I can’t imagine this little ratchet could provide the torque necessary to loosen a 3/8 inch flathead, but the bit is there if you ever need it. Finally the hex bits range from 3/32 to 3/8 (SAE only – there are no metric hex bits) and there is included the expected Phillips 1, 2, and 3. That’s not a bad assortment, just an odd selection if you ask me.
Still, I purchased this for the ratchet, which itself is worth the price. Throw in a good assortment of bits and an acceptable (though not great) plastic case and I’d say that no shop should be without one.

Compact kit in solid case. Mechanism feels sloppy, and it’s not as small as other, better-made alternatives so it doesn’t fit in the tightest spaces. They should have chosen smaller sockets. I get that these are popular sizes, but not necessarily for tighter & smaller applications. The driver bits fall out of the handle easily.

The socket adapter is not 1/4″ hex, it’s a non-standard 5/16″ hex to 1/4″ square. The socket adapter lost all magnetic hold in the ratchet after 1 use. It falls right out. Useless junk.

It had the bit I needed, bit the ratchet wouldn’t keep the bit in, it kept falling out as I was trying to use it. I’ve bought better tools at the dollar store. $20 was way too much money for this set, so I returned it, and bought a much cheaper version at another store that actually worked.

Very handy. Only complaint is you almost need to hang on to bits and/or sockets or they fall out. It would be nice if they were magnetic.

Perfect little gadget you have in your bag for when you’re in a jam and you need a little bits/sockets and a tiny little socket wrench for those tight little places

I have an older kit (same but old style) and it holds sockets, etc in. The new one doesn’t. I lost my 5/18th socket last night. it’s in my mower somewhere! missing parts to old one or would use it all the time! Not happy with “revised” kit!!

I needed a small repair kit to take on the road while motorcycling and on the trails while ATVing. This kit gives you the ability to use as a screwdriver or a nut driver/socket all in one very small and nicely protected package. Will fit in any cubby or small space you might have on your vehicle.

This is, at best, a light duty hobby tool only. It does not stand up to moderate household tasks. The ratchet teeth slip and can even break if any amount of real torque is applied. The bits are made of brittle metal and will snap if used to break free a stubborn fastener. Absolutely do not use for vehicle repair, even though the compact size is appealing for tight locations. The ratchet or bits will break with the forces required for working on vehicles. The only good thing about this set is the sockets, which are good quality. You can use them in a better 1/4” drive ratchet.
The ratchet is the worst part, with tiny plastic direction switches that feel weak and stiff to use. Just turning the ratchet in your hand, the teeth sound bad and the motion is not smooth, as if there is no lubrication inside the mechanism. All attachments are held in magnetically, so expect them to fall out if you shake or bump the tool.
I have warrantied this item twice in the last year and will be setting my now 3rd set aside for very light use only. All the quality issues above were present in both warrantied sets, so this is not a one off issue. Don’t expect a “hassle free” warranty process at the service desk either, that goes for all Kobalt tools.

This handy little set of tools is perfect for the odds and ins job.

picked this up a bit over a year ago. surprisingly sturdy hard case and nice sockets with color coding for SAE and Metric. the thin profile of the ratchet has made this set extremely useful for tight spaces working on vehicles. the double ended setup is a bit redundant as I’m sure a single 1/4in bit drive would be fine, but has never caused any issues. the one issue I have faced is the ratchet direction selector snapped halfway off after a drop, which makes it a bit more difficult to switch directions but certainly doesn’t stop me using the set.

My socket adapter bit falls out very easily and it finally got lost. I went to to request lifetime warranty replacement of socket adapter. did not have the adapter and would not break open a kit. I called 1-888-3KOBALT and they too would not provide just the socket adapter. KOBALT told me to call the manufacturer, JS Products. What a runaround for a lifetime warranty $2 part.

I want to start off by saying that i really do like this little bit set. The ratchet has a major design flaw. The ratchet has small steel “springs”(not much bigger than a staple) that hold the bits in during use. The problem is that when the bits are removed for the 1st time, the spring goes flying out & the bits now won’t stay in place. I have had to warranty 8 in less than a year. I tried contacting Kobalt & to recommend an upgrade to make the ratchet better, but they just kept transferring me back & forth. I can’t find my original receipt, so the store will only let me exchange the set for the same item instead if issuing a credit so I can purchase something else. Maybe I’ll exchange it again & give it to a homeless person!

Nice kit, but looks can be deceiving…beware, if you need to use a small bit in any area of your cars engine, the ratchet will not hold the bit in place and it will fall into the depths of the engine compartment , this pretty much makes the set useless.

I have used a similar gear wrench set made in Taiwan for over 10 years without a problem. I purchased this Kobalt set because of the price and nice case. ( the lid on my gear wrench set is shot.) The first time I opened the lid the black plastic slide lock fell off. I tried out some of the bits and when I removed a bit a wire/spring fell out of the wrench so now a bit will not have any tension to keep it in place and will just fall out. I will return for a refund.

Great little kit for hard to reach limited space use my only complaint would be it’s not magnetic and the bit falls out easily

only reason why i am giving this a 1 star rating is because the set does not come with the wrench shown. The one i received had a taller profile where you insert your bits. Reason why i wanted this set is because of the low profile of the wrench since i work in aviation and needed it for those really tight spaces. So i actually had to buy the 24 piece set which somehow costs more than this set to get the correct wrench i wanted. Please change the picture to the correct wrench to avoid misleading others.

I haven’t tried the others, but this looked better than the Stanley or Geartrade set also available here. I like the selection of bits and sockets as well as the compact wrench. The box also seems pretty sturdy and everything fits tightly and not likely to fall out even with the lid open.
What I had trouble with is that the 5/16 hex adapter to the 1/4 square sockets was too a bit small and kept falling out of the wrench. I almost lost the adapter and a socket in a pile of leaves at dusk. The 5/16 hex bit that is also in this set fits nice and tight.
My solution at first was to wrap a strip of tape across the bottom and up two sides of the 5/16 hex side to provide some friction. While it does work, the tape eventually gets torn and things get a little gummy, but it’s not a huge deal. A more permanent fix is to use needlenose pliers or a hemostat to pull out the wire staple inside the head of the wrench. Only one side of the wire is bent. Bending the other side provides just enough friction to correct the size deficiency of the socket adapter yet is not too tight for the 5/16 hex side of the bit to fit into the wrench too.
The other slight modification I made was to the case because I found the lid a bit fiddly to open easily. I scored and bent off the blue tab on the corner of the box where the black plastic security feature held the lid closed. That just gives me another location to flip up the lid with my thumb.

I have both the old style ratchet set and new one. The piece that snaps into the new rachet falls out. I’m missing 2 sockets and the piece that holds socket to rachet or I would just keep using old one. wonder if Kobalt will replace missing pieces.

This kit is small and is an excellent addition to a toolbox. It has all of the bits and common sockets. The ratchet wrench is small but works well. Everything is packed in a rigid box, which is convenient for selecting bits and sockets.

Good product. Small compact. Down side is the adapter for sockets falls out too easily.
