This set comes in a nice sturdy case to keep everything well organized. It certainly saves time when you’re not searching for the correct size.
The case has removable hinge pins for anyone that wants to use it as an organizer in a tool chest drawer. It’s quite a handy feature.
On to the contents. The sockets are well marked and easy to read. They are sized nicely as they fit fasteners with ease but are still snug enough to not slip off when applying strong torque.
They’re very well finished with a nice “gun metal chrome” finish. If the plating proves to be resilient, they’ll be excellent.
The Nutdrivers are always an added bonus as are the various screwdriver bits.
I’ve included a pic to provide a visual display of the layout which is well thought out.
The 120 tooth ratchets are simply amazing. When in a very confined space, these ratchets will still function as they need very little room. They appear very well made and should last for many years.
Whether they hold up to professional mechanics will be interesting but for a private shop they are excellent.
This set will not disappoint.
It would be nice to include the country of origin as some Craftsman tools are US made which would be my first personal choice.
I kept it at 4 stars as I have no way to determine their longevity.

I ordered this and got it in prior to a weekend and I’ll be darned if I didn’t need to start using it right away.
Let me being by saying that the case is sturdy and effective. The clasps seem a little loose and may eventually break off but it’s holding up to this point.
As I opened the case, there was a quality separator between the two sides making sure they don’t get damaged. Then i noticed the Gun Metal Chrome. They are very sharp looking and look great in the light. I just couldn’t get over how cool they looked almost to the point that I didn’t want to use them.
But I did have to use them. I needed to get into the 3/8 socket with the extender for working on my boat. Let me say that they are Craftsman Quality tools so they are good. The larger ratchet felt like it was a little “off” in that the ratcheting sound didn’t sound consistent. The small one was fine. But after a few turns it sounded and felt better.
I do have an issue with some of the sockets being very difficult to pull out of the case slots. I had to use the extender to get some of them out. Only the shorter ones were like this. The ones where you could get your fingers in between them were good. After a few uses, i’m sure they will remove and snap back in without any issues.
That was the only negative really but only time will tell how long these last and how effective they stay. If it changes, i’ll do an update.

Tools are worth their weight in gold when you don’t have them, and it always seems like the thing you need to use them on is just slightly too big or small for what you’ve got on hand. With this set you’ll have everything on hand. It comes in a good case too, so you have it all organized. Tools stay in place and fit sung, that helps a lot with knowing if one is missing, and for finding the right size for what you need.
As a women I appreciate how beautiful these tool are LOVE the gunmetal grey color! Very well made as expected from Craftsman. They have the look and feel of professional grade tools A+++. Great addition for a DIY or YouTube mechanic you really can’t go wrong with this set.

I have both cheap and quality tools. Upon evaluating these tools, I find them to be a high quality product. They have a beautiful finish and appear precision made. They have a ball locking mechanism on the ratchet as do most quality ratchet sets. The ratchet mechanism is fine toothed and works very nice. The size inscription on the sockets are larger than any I have ever seen. I like the case in that each peace fits snug without rubbing each other or rolling around and the socket size is molded in each space. I will leave these tools in their case and keep them on our motor home. I don’t keep all of my tools on the motor home in one box because of the weight. I like to spread it out, so this will work great for me. Overall I like these tools and believe them to be high quality. I would recommend them to anyone looking for quality tools.

Love the 120 tooth ratchets, feel nice and smooth. Really like this set is almost all sockets for 1/4 and 3/8 drive, instead of filling it with tons of bits to get the piece count up. Only negative I could say it has is the gunmetal chrome shows oils much faster than a standard chrome socket.

Aside from being a good looking set of tools, this is extremely solid. The first experience I had using them was actually using the 3/8 drive on the side of the road to take off Lugnuts from one of my tires.. It’s definitely not made for it, but my Lincoln’s onboard tool was broken. You could really feel how the 120 tooth ratchet turned completely differently. I actually had something attached to the handle to apply more force. It worked perfect. It’s more of a job for a breaker bar or the tool that actually is meant for it. But this ratchet is absolutely a strong as they called and had no gift to it whatsoever.. Little input powered the Lugnuts right off and tighten them very well too. Going from somebody being broken down on the side of the road with no tools to take the Lugnuts off to being somebody who had something that made it extremely easy it was really nice. Definitely a surprise I didn’t expect. Since then I have used them for half a dozen things. They have change spark plugs, oil, air filters.. I have used them with impact tools, and to change industrial hardware off of signs. The finish on them cleans up really easy too. To me I think this particular type of finish scratches a little bit easily but they still look good. And you can use them on any project with no fear of them breaking or slipping. They are incredibly solid.

CRAFTSMAN 81-Piece Standard (SAE) and Metric Gun Metal Chrome Mechanic’s Tool Set.
I was a little baffled when I saw Craftsman at , but it’s great to have the product here!
Fresh out of the box I was greeted by a VERY nice looking red case with metal latches. Nice quality case, with a thin black pad inside to separate both halves, should anything want to clink together when closed.
Seems to be a pretty complete 1/4″ – 3/8″ drive kit, with the addition of nut drivers and drive bits as well. The inclusion of a 3/8″ swivel adapter is nice, but would have been nice to see a 1/4″ one as well. The big bonus here is the ‘3X BETTER ACCESS’ feature. I didn’t realize what this meant until I took my first turn of the ratchet. My old Craftsman 3/8″ ratchet had around 9 clicks per 90*. When you’re in a limited travel space and you can’t get much of a turn on a ratchet, you don’t get very far very fast, if at all. This new 3X system has 30 clicks per 90* (120 per full 360* rotation). Even the narrowest of spaces will give you maximum effect for minimum effort. The finish is very nice on this set. Not chrome, not black chrome, somewhere in the middle. The stamping of the sizes could be a little more pronounced on the sockets, but it’s not bad. Definitely could be deeper on the nut driver attachments, though.
All things considered, this is a great set at a good price. Out with the old, in with the new!

I am in my late 50’s but have been buying Craftsman tools since I was a kid (always was a Sears near my home – obviously this is not the case, any more). Anyway, I felt secure purchasing these tools because I knew if any of them ever broke (and I broke a few) that they’d replace them – no matter what the reason. On this kit from it says right when you open it – Lifetime Warranty. I go to now like I used to go to Sears years ago, so it is good that Craftsman is now at . This set is mixed but mostly metric (which is good because SAE is hardly used any more) – and I LOVE the gunmetal color. It is sad, though, about the plight of Sears, and retail, in general – I much prefer to shop in a store.

Will start with the finish – really like the gunmetal finish but if you are someone that is more focused on the finish youe probably focused on the wrong thing. Fingerprints, scrapes, dents, dings will show up easily. Not a big deal to me but I don’t expect it to look this nice for long…
Really easy to identify the sizes and parts because the identifiers are stamped in to the sides. They are also labeled within the cases. Case is large but pretty nice.
A great variety of items which will be extremely useful for me. Comes in metric and SAE sizes so should be able to accommodate any need.
Quality product for my needs. I do a bit of work around my house. Not a professional at all. I really needed some longer sockets and this will feel that need easily. Extremely happy with the limited use it has gone through so far.

With over a year and a half put on these ratchets, they are worth the price. The sockets have the size rolled/pressed on them, not laser etched. The blown molded case really hold on the the parts and makes a very convenient carry case/storage. I’m glad to see this tools set doesn’t have the normal screw driver and multi bits drive up the count. When it comes to the ratchet there are a few problems. Its a great ratchet but there is no way to rebuild/service parts. What you are getting is a use and throw away/exchange. I would want one I could service to keep it in the turning wrenches fight. Great quality but not a ton of fore thought for the longevity of the consumer.

I’ve always used Craftsman for their quality and warranry. This set was purchased to be used in part on a tool bag. Tools look and feel great, no doubt on the quality. The box is sturdy but could have saved space filling in the gaps making it smaller. Do recommend.

This is an outstanding ratchet set …. and more. I wish I had a set like this years ago instead of the mishmash assortment of sockets I accumulated over the years. It has all the common English (SAE) and metric size sockets, both short and long versions, 2 ratchets, an extension, a universal joint, an assortment of metric and SAE star bits and a few screwdriver bits. I used it this Spring to work on a riding mower and it worked perfectly. I was skeptical of a potential quality issue since Black & Decker now owns the Craftsman name, but it looks like the top-notch Craftsman quality I always got from Sears Craftsman tools in the past. It comes in a rugged case that holds every piece in place – almost too well! The sockets snap into place so tightly that they can be difficult to remove. Overall, I would recommend this set to anyone needing or wanting a very good ratchet/socket set at a great price.

Upon arrival I was pretty excited to see what the “new” Craftsman tools were like. The molded case is very nice and holds the tools well with minimal rattle. First tools I picked up were the 3/8 and 1/4 ratchet to see how smooth they were. The 3/8 felt alright but the 1/4 was not smooth at all. My first time using the 1/4 ratchet was to change an air filter….it was very clanky and did not feel smooth at all, almost like there was no grease on the ratchet gears. The ratchets are non serviceable which with a little grease they could be pretty good. I might try soaking then in oil to see if that helps smooth them out.
The sockets on the other hand are pretty nice. The finish on one was a little rough but nothing bad. One thing I did find weird is the deep well sockets are very short compared to my Matco sockets. I guess that could be beneficial in some situations.
The only other gripe I have is there is no knurling on the extensions, which with greasy hands it is hard to spin. Over all it could be a good set just could use some refining.

The fit and finish of the tools is more than acceptable, it’s impressive that you get such a high tooth count of a ratchet at this price point. I’m not 100% sure this is the set I thought I was ordering. I wanted the USA made set but the labeling on this set looks different and this set says made in Taiwan. It’ll be fine for it’s intended use I’m sure as I was just going to keep it in our main car for the road trips and helping others who have car trouble. I immediately took out all the 10mm socket and tossed them in the pasture as I knew it was just a matter of time before they mysteriously disappeared and I wanted to take away the suspense. I have a bad heart and it couldn’t take the strain of that stress. (Wink)

I’ve been a backyard mechanic for almost 50 years and have worked on equipment for the military and for the airlines for over 38 years so I know what to expect from certain tools.
The early Craftsman tools were nice items to have. I remember back in the 70s how it was something we could always count on. Even in the military our shop was always stocked with Craftsman wrenches and ratchets. Then in the late 80s and 90s Craftsman went cheap and so did the quality of their tools. I stopped going to Sears because of that. Well, they are back – and they did a very good job at winning us back. When I brought my socket set into work the other guys were happy to see that Craftsman is back on their game.
At first glance the gun-metal finish was not something I was used to but it was something I quickly found I liked. Even when I first picked up the ratchet I could tell it was going to be something I would enjoy using. I compared it to one of my Craftsman ratchets from the late 80s and there is sure a world of difference. I took some comparison pictures of the old style verses the new design so you could see what I mean.
The weight of the 3/8” ratchet is just over 12 ounces where the older, cheaper Craftsman ratchets were just over 8 oz. The ratcheting action is a finer toothed design, which is really nice when you have limited space to work. One of my other ratchets is a Snap-On and it’s a 100-tooth, this one is even more precise and appears to be a 120-tooth action. I counted thirty clicks on a quarter turn. This is important when you are working in tight places.
The sockets themselves are 6 point, which make for a better fit and are less likely to strip out a bolt head or slip off a stubborn fastener. I found that using it with the 120-tooth ratchet allowed to easy lining up on those annoying bolts that were hard to reach otherwise. They redesigned the size identification numbers so they stand out and are easier to read.
One thing that I found that was not included in this set is a 3/8 to 1/4 in. Socket Adapter – probably because this comes with a separate 1/4” ratchet as well as the larger standard 3/8”. That’s no real biggie as those adapters usually end up getting me in trouble anyway.
1/4” Socket sizes are as follows: 5/32, 3/16, 7/32, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, and 1/2″. Metric is 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm.
3/8” sockets are 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 3/4, and 13/16”. Deep well sockets are 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, and 3/4″. Metric sockets are 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 16mm, 17mm, 18mm, 19mm, 21mm, 22mm.
There’s an assortment of bits and a holder socket for these as well. These typically end up getting lost in my toolbox drawers so I’m thinking the hard plastic carrying case will keep these where I can get to them if needed.
These also carry a lifetime warranty. In the past I would carry broken items into Sears and swapping them out was a piece of cake. I don’t see me having problems with this new style though. These are well built and I am very happy with these. I have four roll-around tool boxes at my house and another one at work. This is now my favorite socket set.

This is a very solid tool set. It is a definite step up from the cheaper socket sets I’ve had in the past. First off, it is a very attractive set. What a tool looks like isn’t my main concern but they do stand out and the gun metal finish is a nice touch. The case is attractive and it is well organized. The space is used efficiently and they pack the set in tightly. Each socket is labeled on the case so putting sockets back isn’t a guessing game. In actual use, the socket wrenches have a dense (weighty) feel to them. The set has proved durable and it comes with a lifetime warranty. The wrenches have an intuitive socket locking mechanism that functions well. The set has both metric and SAE, with multiple versions of each common socket. I also liked the screwdriver bit attachment – very useful for screws in tight places. For example, I used it to reach around to the back of my stacked washer & dryer to screw on the safety clips without having to pull the stack out from the wall. Overall, I don’t have any complaints about the set and would recommend it to anyone who was looking for a higher quality mechanic’s set.

I really like the Craftsman 81 pc gunmetal chrome mechanics tool set.
Firstly, the case is a heavy duty plastic that looks like it could take a beating and live through it for years. It has a molded in handle as well as a molded area for a lock to keep people out of them.
It has a heavy duty latch close system on both sides. I like that it lays open flat on your cart, table, floor, or even in the drawer of your tool chest and then you can grab it to go if you need too. Rather than keeping them in a foam liner in the drawer unless you don’t plan on traveling with them. The case just looks nice and is definitely appealing especially compared to my last cheap set.
As far as inside of the case, everything is well spaced out for easy viewing and grabbing of with large hands without picking up another by mistake.
The sockets have large engraved numbers. Finally I can see them quickly without examining them for numbers.
There is a nice thin foam insert to keep the tools from clanking eachother.
The pieces are all a nice heavy quality. They have a nice weight to them. They do not feel cheap or lightweight.
I like that there is a full lifetime warranty on them.
They have high access and it states 3x’s better access. I like that the direction lock stays in place and does not slip. My last much cheap set did that and I was always busting knuckles so I appreciate this in a high quality set like this.
They come in standard and metric. I like the adapters, extensions, and bits included with the set. I will get a lot of use out of these for sure. I have used them akready on a few jobs and completely recommend them.

Craftsman is possibly the most trusted single tool brand in history – it is great to see pick up this brand. I have many different Craftsman tools in my chest – some that were handed down from my father after 40 years of use. Their ratchet sets have always proven reliable and take on abuse (like using them as a hammer occasionally). I can only recall two occasions where I had to take a ratchet and a socket in for exchange under the lifetime warranty – always hassle free.
This set is a modern refinement of a tool staple. The gunmetal finish has a great look while will offering the durability of a hardened and chromed tool. The ratchet handles are an improved design over years past with a great ergonomic grip.
I give these tools 5 starts without question – despite the case that a don’t understand. The case seems durable but could easily be 30% smaller by spacing the tools tighter. This case will take up too much room in my chest and would be much more portable if smaller.
Otherwise this is a great set that will last you a lifetime.

I’ve used a variety of sockets and tools from different manufacturers.
Craftsman sockets used to be known for rounding off the corners of nuts and bolts.
I must admit, these are a new breed!

2. It comes in a nice plastic container with steel hinges and latches. There’s a place for every piece that firmly holds them in place. Each place is marked with the correct size, less ratchet, bits, ext, etc.
3. Most importantly, the sockets are designed with cutouts at the corners. This means the sockets do not touch the corners of the nuts and bolts so they can’t be rounded off. Big improvement!
4. Another big improvement, the ratchets are fine tooth. It takes very little movement to start working. Great in tight working spaces.
5. They look and feel great! The gunmetal chrome is a very smooth finish. No rough edges. The sizes are etched and easily read.
6. Cons: There are no SAE nut drivers. Lag screws are SAE.
There are no 12 point sockets. Would be nice if there was a small set of 12 point SAE and MM sockets. Motorcycles for instance, have 12 point bolts. Since they need torqued, you need a socket.
Would of given it 5 stars if it would of had SAE nut drivers and a few less screwdriver bits.
Comes with a lifetime warranty.
Overall, it is a nice socket set. Name is misleading since there are no wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc. Now that would be a tool set. But this does makes for a nice travel socket set.
Add in couple of screwdrivers, pliers, vice grips, hammer, test light, be good to go!

This is a nice set of basic sockets and bits if you are in the market for one.
Pros:
1. The sockets are 6 point which I would rather as they are less likely to strip nuts and bolts.
2. The sockets are rounded a little bit on the points to help prevent stripping.
3. The ratchets are very smooth. No issues with mine slipping or binding.
4. The sockets are easy to read the sizes.
5. Comes with a nice case.
6. Nice finish, but its a socket set so all that matters is how it holds up.

Cons:
1. Deep-well sockets seem more like a mid range between deep and shallow sockets. They are not as deep as any of my other sets.
2. Some more extensions would have been nice instead of the screwdriver bits. But thats minor.
Overall I like the set and will probably buy another to keep in my wifes car. Time will tell how well the finish holds up but I think it should be good.
