2001 Subaru Outback, check engine light on. I bought this tool, read all instructions, downloaded app, set up, and ran the test. It scanned for a while, then “No Errors Detected”, 0 issues found. I ran it several times, same result. No way to clear code(s) if tool can’t see them. Went to auto parts store, their scanner found P1443. Still “No Errors Found” when again trying this Craftsman scan tool. Craftsman customer service responded to my email, but their suggestions didn’t help. I returned the tool to for a refund.

I received the Craftsman Auto Assist for my honest review. It came in the mail just a few short weeks ago and I am so in love with it. I feel like I have my own personal mechanic at my fingertips. It’s easy to download the app. Once downloaded you plug in your vehicles information and it tells you exactly where to attach the device and then it goes to work. Like almost immediately it notifies you of the issue or issues, how pressing the issue may be and what to do or how problematic it is if you don’t get it resolved. Definitely recommend. Every vehicle should have one.

Wow, so many 5 star reviews and then you realize they almost without exception are from people who received this product for free in exchange for a review. I wish there was a way I could completely filter those out since I don’t trust them, but here is a REAL review from a customer who used his own hard earned money to purchase this item.
I needed something to try and help troubleshoot an issue with my 2006 Honda Pilot and it seems like a good idea to go with one that gave me a bluetooth/app option over top of one that required the reader itself to be plugged in at all times. I like that you can just plug this sensor into the ODB2 port and leave it there, checking on it using the app only when needed.
Sadly, this device/app does not work at all with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Tablet. To be fair the instructions do specify using it with your phone, but this is the first time I can think of that an Andriod app would work on my phone (old Samsung Galaxy S5) but not my tablet. I emailed support about the issue, but have not received any reply yet (it’s only been 24 hours though).
Regardless, once I got it working with my phone it pretty quickly spit out some diagnostic codes that I could look up online to get a better idea for. Unfortunately it appears everything it shows me are more ‘generic’ codes, and that I really need Honda-specific codes that only the dealership or a auto mechanic might be able to tease out. It also seems very hit-or-miss as to whether or not my phone can communicate with the sensor any time I use it. Sometimes it reads it and report flawlessly, but other times it will complain it can’t ‘find’ it even with the phone right next to it.
At the end of the day this isn’t a bad purchase, but I do think a hard-wired OBD2 reader would be more reliable and I am disappointed it won’t work at all with my tablet.

I’ve read the same problem with other people, they connect it follow the instructions and the app never connects with the device, it is a waste of money don’t buy it.

I got this device for my daily but I have a scion with a check engine light on for a 02 sensor so to test this device I plugged it in to see if it reads the code and it came back with nothing. I tested this device on 3 Cars with confirmed codes and it did not detect any error. do not trust

I bought this specifically because it said it has live data as well as a battery/alternator charging monitor feature as well as the Bluetooth capability with downloadable app. Only to find out It has live data for rpms, vehicle speed, engine load & MAP sensor psi only. As far as the battery/alternator charging monitor feature, it only measures your battery at rest voltage which for the novice is fine to give you an idea of what you need to do. I’ll stick with my cumbersome Autel tablet which does everything I need it to do with the exception of changing my oil and a tire rotation!!! LOL

I have had this product for a short time and am already in love with it. It is like having a virtual mechanic. All you have to do is download the app, plug in the auto assist, and it does the rest. My vehicle has had the check engine light on for the past few month and it almost immediately told my why and what to do about it and even how much I should worry about fixing it and what could happen if I didn’t get it fixed right away. The only negative thing I have to say about it is the feature to clear the indicator off the dash did not work. Even after multiple attempts. Other then that this product is amazing and I would definitely recommend it.

i bought this a few weeks ago because a regular scanner would only give the codes, take it to a mechanic and they tried to tell me it was going to cost 8k to fix the issues. After getting the craftsman device, i plugged it in and ran the diagnostic test. This told me it was something completely different. Went back to the same mechanic and showed him what it said. He was not very happy with what i showed him. Altough he was correct with what was wrong, but he added multiple other things. The craftsman app told me it was the catalytic converter, both o2 sensors, and the air-to-fuel ratio sensor. The mechanic was telling me all of that and the engine was misfiring, the pistons were bad, the piston rings, the cam shafts, cam shift sensors and a few other things. Once i showed the mechanic this info he said it would cost about 3k to fix. Needless to say I’m not paying 3k to fix a 2004 highlander with over 250,000 miles. Time for a new vehicle! If I would have chosen to get it fixed, I would have lost over 5k. The craftsman device is worth the price so many times over. I am going to buy some for my extended family for the holidays because I know it will save them money. They have older cars too.

Soon as I put this in my car it immediately detected issues. I was pretty sure I needed some work done on my car so this came just in time when I needed it. It was very direct and easy on giving you information on what exactly your car needs. The app you download on your phone was easy to install and very user friendly. At no point was I confused on what to do or how to use it. Would definitely recommend. It gives live data on everything and check engine light and maintenance reminders. There is absolutely no reason not to get this item. I love it!

I got myself the CRAFTSMAN Auto Assist and am so glad I did. It’s better than insurance. I’m not real computer savvy but they make installation and running it very simple. I haven’t had any issues as of yet but I do have an older, high mileage car so to be sure…I will! It will be so nice to go to the mechanics and tell them what’s wrong. That will avoid any additions they may try to throw at me, if you know what I mean ladies or men that are not mechanically inclined for that matter. I especially like the maintenance reminders. They don’t always put that sticker in the window saying when your next oil change is due. I highly recommend the CRAFTSMAN Auto Assist for anyone that is not a mechanic or doesn’t know cars, which is a lot of people these days with all the new computerized elements of cars. This is one purchase I absolutely do not regret!
