This charger not only charges but it monitors after a full charge to cycle on/off to maintain the full charge. As a n added bonus it desulphates the battery which gives it a longer life.

Being retired and with limited physical mobility at times, my little Subaru sometimes sits for weeks unused. Apparently, an alarm system (and other onboard electronics) draw more current that I expected. In less than a month, my battery was as dead as a doornail. The dome lights wouldn’t even come on at all, let alone anything else. The battery terminals showed only 3 volts (disconnected from the vehicle.) So I knew I needed to get a battery maintainer to keep it charged, but I didn’t know how long this product would take to charge it. After all, the more expensive version is called a “charger”; this one says only “maintain”. But if it’s putting out any current at all, I knew it should charge the battery eventually.
So I disconnected the battery terminals and attached the “maintainer” clamps. The indicator started blinking because stupid me wasn’t paying attention to the poles. D’OH! Good safety feature though. After switching them, I left the hood ajar so any fumes produced wouldn’t build up. By the next morning, the unit indicated a fully charged battery, and indeed it was. In fact, the instruction pamphlet says how long to expect charging to take. So much for it being just a “maintainer”!
The product includes short leads which can be attached “permanently” to the vehicle’s battery clamps, making it easier (and safer) to plug the maintainer in for maintenance. I suggest taping the wire securely to something non-conductive, and ensuring it cannot rub against anything while the vehicle is moving, which could cause a dangerous short circuit.
This product comes with a 2 year warranty, so I anticipate years of trouble-free use.

This charger will keep your battery fully charged when not in use. Every vehicle should have one of these hooked to its battery every time it is not in use, especially when not used every day. Keeping your battery fully charged when not in use will add years of life to your battery. It will give you a warning if it is time to replace your battery so that you never get stranded.

Bought to keep the 2 yr old battery on my cub cadet lawn mower charged during the fall and winter months. So far it has done its job as I went to use my mower last week and when I turned the key it started right up no more having to put my battery on charge to start mulching leaves.

I have 6 of these in use on lawn tractor, boats and antique cars ,snowmobiles.. I have them on timers so they are on 12hrs and off 12hrs, They work great and everything is ready to go in the Spring. I use the direct cable for ease of connection and leave the cable on the battery year round. I’ve gotten much longer life from small jet-ski and lawn tractor batteries by not allowing them to fully discharge.

I bought this because my John Deere D100 riding mower failed to start after sitting in the garage all winter. I hooked this sucker right up to the battery and a few minutes later the mower was up and running. Now that I’m done mowing I’ll hook it back up and let it charge for a few hours. 2 thumbs up!

I have been using these to maintain the batteries on three different four wheelers and one riding lawn mower. They have been the best maintainer I have found to date. I now own five of these. All have worked excellently. A very good value for the price!

This is a trickle charger/ maintainer and it works well if you understand its purpose and limitations. Will it recharge a totally dead battery? No. It needs to see above 6 volts in a 12 volt battery to recharge it. If less than 6 volts, the charger thinks it is a 6 volt battery and only charge it to 6 volts. There are ways of getting around this, check out YouTube. This said, if you are frequently recharging a totally dead battery there are better options. If you are maintaining or charging a slightly low battery, this is a great unit.

Schumacher makes a good quality chargers/maintainers. In my case the smaller units haven’t had a long life expectancy. The unit I recently purchased replaced the same Schumacher unit. The replaced unit lasted 3 1/2 years. I’ve never had this charger/maintainer unit last more than 4 1/2 years. Only 1 unit that I’ve owned lasted 4 1/2 years. I’ve noticed 3 common issues with the unit. Issue #1 The unit face plate will indicate that it is charging/charged when it’s not the case. The battery being charged by the unit will be dead even though the battery is good. Issue #2 When you unplug the unit from the plug/receptacle then plug it back in approximately one minute later while being attached to a battery the unit won’t activate/begin charging. No indicator lights will come on nor the telltale clicking sound will be heard. Issue #3 When you plug the unit into a plug/receptacle the yellow charging light comes on and the telltale clicking sound is heard. Within 20 seconds the yellow charging light and green charged light starts lighting back and forth along with the clicking sound. Each time the yellow charging light OR green charged light comes on the telltale clicking sound is heard. In all cases I suspect the issue to be a chip failure. I presently use 4 of these small Schumacher units on three lawntractors and a backup tractor battery. All of the lawntractors are for home/personal use. The three tractors along with the extra tractor battery are located in an enclosed 28’X40′ wood garage with a cement floor and a 12’X24′ enclosed wood shed with a wood floor. None of the units are placed on the floor OR over the battery being charged. I live in coastal Noth Carolina so extreme temperatures are not a factor. In my case the cost to replace the defective units every 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 years is excessive BUT necessary. The units are inexpensive and when operating properly they keep the batteries properly charged throughout the year.

I haven’t had it that long but it seems to be doing what it’s supposed to. It’s not really a battery charger but a battery maintainer. It took several days until the battery was charged enough to where it switched over to battery maintainer mode. I bought it for my trolling motor battery and being a deep cycle battery that may have something to do with the length of time it took to fully charge. I probably should have used my regular 15 amp battery charger first. With this unit it’s nice to know that I can take the boat out at the spur of the moment and know the battery is fully charged.

I have been using this charger for 13 days. It maintains a fully charged battery and then shuts off the charge. I don’t use my car much in the cold weather and the car starts promptly when I use it for short trips. Very happy with this Schumacher trickle charger.

This charger is completely automatic and foolproof as long as you connect it properly. I am quite impressed by it. It automatically determines what voltage your battery is (6 or 12 volt) and automatically switches from charging to maintaining mode when the battery is fully charged. The dead battery on my lawn tractor was charged and fired right up after just 5 hours on this charger/maintainer. I now just leave it hooked up all winter in order to trickle charge the battery and keep it ready to go this Spring. Red to red (+ to +) and black to black (- to-) and plug the unit into an outlet. It is that simple, folks.

I originally bought this as a gift, seeing as how it’s stated it is a battery charger. It is only a trickle charger. Big difference. The product itself is good for what it actually is, however the title is deceiving. Again, this is NOT a battery charger. It is a good quality trickle charger.

I put it on my 1968 Camaro to keep the battery charged. I kept it on for a couple days. The green light came on but when I went to start the car the battery was dead. I had to get out my other charger to start it.

Purchased to charge my camper trailer battery. Works great. Simply disconnected my camper battery and connected the charger to your standard wall outlet. Took about 24hrs to reach full charge. I love the light display showing yellow while it’s still charging and turning green when fully charged. The nice thing is once the battery is fully charged the charger kicks into sustain mode and won’t overcharge the battery but simply maintain it. Would definitely recommend!

Purchased this in March 2017. Has been connected to my Husq 48″ since then. 2 days ago I cut grass, this device was on and showed charged, normal as always.
Just went out today to plug it back into battery, NO LIGHTS come on! Unplugged all ends multiple times, reset power multiple times, still not lights.
When I tapped on the box with my knuckles, all the LEF lights come on, go off, but the charge lights or no other other lights come back on. Tried this for about 10 minutes, still no luck.
OMW in a few to return it to store since I haven’t had it for 90 days. Will ry another one if possible to see if it lasts longer.

I had two of these for years and wanted a few more, in my search only still had these available, they work great as a maintainer don’t expect them to be a full on charger at 1.5 amps, but if battery is charged and good condition this will keep your battery good during the winter and off seasons which I do with my collection of lawn&garden tractors from end of summer through spring and to keep my batteries charged while waiting on the snow as I have snow blowers and plows on them when not mowing, great product to keep your batteries fresh and strong.

This little unit charged all six of my 6 volt golf cart batteries at a pair at a time. Took several hours but got them up to a level for my main golf cart battery charger to see a voltage reading and take over the charging. I am impressed. This save me money instead of calling the golf cart guy.

For about a month it was pretty steady and charging and I was very happy with it. Lately though I have tried to respond to the other person who’s having trouble with the lights. It seems to have no charge coming out of it I’ve tested it it’s nothing coming out the lights are all off and it just quit I don’t know what happened. Guess I’ll go to Harbor Freight and buy them from there from now on again. I thought it was an upgrade. But I’ve had Harbor Freight battery chargers last for years.

Works well most of the time. A nice charger.
If the battery is dead, it will not work ! The charger must see a voltage from the battery before it will start charging. This is a safety factor, yes. But I have a almost dead battery with too low a voltage, so the charger won’t start the charging process. This is a problem. They need a override switch or something, please.
Someone needs to tell the factory. Thanks

I got these on sale for about $16 each with all connections included at and had them shipped to me. Can’t beat that. I have used two thus far and both are working great. One I hooked to a dead truck battery over night and it fully charged it. The other is maintaining a extra car battery on float charge. The third is still in the box. I have used older Schumacher maintainers in the past with good results.( I had one that failed but I was able to replace a transistor and fix it.) In fact I still have two of those older ones inline right now. One on my mower and another on my motorcycle. The differences between the two are the newer ones weigh less because of the high tech parts inside. I also have used the Black and Decker models and still have them in use on other service batteries but they are twice the price as these and I had one that failed right out of box. I won’t buy those anymore even if they are waterproof. Again, below twenty dollars out the door is a very good price for a good solid battery charger/maintainer.

My F150 truck has a 2 month old battery. I connected it to my F150 just to test it out, it showed it was in charging mode. Since the battery is new and since I had been driving it around I assumed this would take a few hours maybe to top it off. It took about 20 hours to show that it was back at full charge. I don’t believe i have any issues with the charging system, nor any kind of drain on the system so I don’t think this should of taken 20 hours.

This has been a great charger for the past year: But recently, the panel lights are out. Does this mean it’s now failing to charge? I’ve moved the unit to numerous outlets: still, no lights. Usually, amber lights on connecting and a green light at charge. Anyone know what’s up.

It does what it says, has no clear advantages over other chargers. It does come with the end that connects to my motorcycle, which was not true of all the chargers I looked at in store, hence the 4th star.

I used to have a STANLEY 1.5A unit to maintain my motorcycle batteries-worked a few times only had it less than 1 year. I bought the SCHUMACHER model this winter and it is doing everything what it is designed to do. The moulding for the quick disconnect is good and the size of the battery clamps were a little larger than the STANLEY. A single Green LED on the front panel indicates your battery is charged. CONS: Unit does not have a way to mount on a wall. OVERALL: I have had a SCHUMACHER car battery 6/12V battery charger for over 15 years with no issues. Hopefully this maintainer will last for years too but for $20 you cant beat it.
My LOWES did not have these units on the shelves, but I was able to order online and pickup the next day. My store only had a $49 unit on the shelves.
